PROJECT INFORMATION

Duration of the Project

32 months, starting October 2007

Objectives of the Project

Overall objectives:

  • Reduce production line disruption in manufacturing industries in Asia
  • Reduce economic losses due to poor power quality in manufacturing industries in Asia
  • Improve the capacity of manufacturing industries in Asia to do business with their European counterparts (export and industrial partnerships/FDI)
  • Bring Asian manufacturing industries up to European standards in terms of power quality
  • Promote European suppliers of power quality equipment in Asia

Specific objective:

The specific objective of the Project is to raise awareness of managers and decision-makers in manufacturing industries in Asia and to build the capacity of electrical engineers and electrical system designers on power quality as a means to enhance the competitiveness of these manufacturing industries in terms of better production output quality, reduced production costs and improve financial strength, reduced production line interruption and production batches losses.

Implementing Partners

  1. ICA China (Lead Applicant)
  2. University of Bergamo (Italy)
  3. Electrical and Electronics Institute (Thailand)
  4. International Copper Promotion Council (India)
  5. European Copper Institute / LPQI (Brussels)
  6. Copper Development Centre South East Asia (Singapore)

Target Groups

  1. Asian intermediary organizations that are partner in the Project: ICA China, Electrical and Electronics Institute (Thailand), and ICPCI (India)
  2. Asian intermediary organizations from China, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam that will be involved as APQI partners: technical universities, federations and associations of industries, testing laboratories, national standardization bodies, engineers institutes and societies, contractors and suppliers associations, etc.
  3. Manufacturing industries in Asia
  4. European suppliers of power quality equipment

Final Beneficiaries

  1. Manufacturing industries in Asia that will join the APQI after the end of the Project (approx. 5,000)
  2. Data processing centres, stadiums and gymnasiums, hospitals, broadcast and television stations, the telecommunications sector, financial enterprises, transportation industries, and intelligent buildings (estimation: 20,000)
  3. Asian students in electrical design and engineering (estimation: 15,000)

Estimated Results

The Project will build the capacity of Asian manufacturing industries that have a strong potential to do business with their European counterparts on power quality, which will help them 1) reduce production cost; 2) reduce production line interruption and reduce production batches losses; 3) increase quality of manufactured goods; 4) enhance capacity to meet production deadlines. By increasing the competitiveness of Asian manufacturing industries, the Project will enhance the potential for trade (export of manufactured goods) and industrial partnerships (FDI) between Asian manufacturing industries and European companies. In addition, the Project will create markets for European suppliers of power quality equipment and services.
